Applying for positions means you need to have a well-organized resume to help you stand out from the other applicants.

 

Making sure all of the regular information is there, is the first step of completion however, try to think outside of the box and make your resume original yet still professional. Here is some information that needs to be included in a resume and a few ideas on originality for resumes.

Contact Information

When writing a resume it is important to include all of the contact information at the top of the resume. The name should stand out, make it bold and a larger font than the rest of the information. Leave a space or put a horizontal line between the end of the contact section and the next section of the resume.

Tips for Writing a Resume Headline

Having a resume headline  (also known as a resume title) is a brief phrase that highlights your value as a candidate. Located at the top of your resume under your name and contact information, a headline allows a recruiter to see quickly and concisely what makes you the right person for the job.

Keep it concise. A resume headline should be one brief phrase; it should not even be a complete sentence. The goal is to concisely state your value as a candidate; anything longer than a phrase defeats the purpose of a headline.

 

Resume Objective

If you include an objective on your resume, it’s important to tailor your resume objective to match the job you are applying for. The more specific you are, the better chance you have of being considered for the job you are interested in. Some job seekers choose to include an objective on their resume, rather than including it in the body of their cover letter. It’s optional, but including a resume objective can convince employers that you know what you want and are familiar with the job, the industry, and the company.

 

Branding Statement

To be competitive use a branding statements at the top of resumes. What’s a branding statement? It’s a short, catchy statement that highlights your most relevant expertise in about 15 words or fewer. Here are a few examples.

  • Persistent financial planner with a history of landing and servicing high net worth clients.
  • Creative, skilled social media expert with five years of experience managing professional social media accounts.
  • Energetic health services Recruiter with the contacts, finesse with people and persistence to attract top talent.
