How to Use Your Temporary Position to Become a Full-Time Employee

A growing sensation in today’s employment market is the desire for companies to “test drive” employees before hiring them by offering short Full-time job grunge blue vintage round isolated sealterm projects or temporary positions. If you take a second to think about it, this hiring process is quite innovative because it allows the company to hire employees that are ideal for the company culture and a “good fit” for the position opening without having to terminate or fire someone.

Since this idea is fast becoming general practice in many businesses, you, the temporary employee, need to take a second to realize that you could be getting interviewed each and every day in your temporary position. Here are some suggestions on how you can take your project or temporary position to the next level and potentially be considered for full time position:

  1. Carefully choose where to accept project or temporary work

Remember that your choice in a company is just as important as their choice in selecting you. You need to be able to be feel comfortable and happy about coming to work each day. Take a second to research the company and if you move forward with the temp position, take the time to determine if you are comfortable in their company culture as well.

  1. Make sure the project or temporary position is an industry you would enjoy

If you are trained in medical and truly love working in a medical office in the billing department, taking a job in a Public Relations firm as an assistant might not be something you would enjoy in the long term, as many positions turn into long term or direct hire positions. Consider this before accepting a job in an industry you prefer to NOT work in.

  1. Treat every day like it’s the first day

Now is the time to prove yourself to the employer. Ask important questions that pertain to doing your job and doing it well without taking too much time away from the person training you. Be prompt to work every day and find ways to be exceptional at what you do including cross training and taking initiative.

  1. Be a team player

Not only do you want to do your job well, but also look out for those around you. If someone needs something or asks for help, help them. Show that you care not only about the work you are doing, but the people around you as well, which directly affects the success of the company.

  1. State your interest in a permanent position

Make sure the staffing firm you are working with understands your employment objectives prior to you accepting a position. Whether you choose to secure a full time position, gather industry experience or simply complete a project, you should partner with your staffing firm to ensure the employer is on the same page with the desired outcome. Communication throughout this process is key.
