Smart Managers Never Make the Same Mistake Twice

Admitting you made a mistake can be hard because it can feel like you’re attacking your self worth, but fully acknowledging your mistakes and errors is the only way to avoid repeating them and becoming a better boss for your staff. Changing your perspective about mistakes can change them from an error, to a great learning opportunity.

Here are a few mistakes that smart managers don’t make more than once:

 

Repeating the same thing and expecting a different result.

Perseverance is important when working towards something you want, but if you take the same approach you should expect the same result. Try planning a different approach to expect a different result, hopefully the result you were looking for.

 

You never learn anything from not doing your homework.

Whether it’s research for a new project or taking a shortcut to plan a different strategy on how to achieve something major in your career, not doing your ‘homework’ can bring your career to a screeching halt.

 

Not asking the right questions.

Believing in someone or something is good, however if you ask questions before getting too involved, you’ll realize that nothing ever sounds as good as it is.

 

Not having a budget.

You’ll never be able to operate under the constraint of a professional budget if you’ve never had to establish discipline for yourself through a personal budget. Budgets help establish disciple which is the foundation of quality work.

 

Not having a calculated goal.

It’s easy to lose sight of the big picture you’ve always imagined when you’re constantly busy. Take time out of your day to remember your end goal and calculate the steps on how far you’ve got and what steps you’re going to continue to take to achieve it.

 

Making everyone happy.

It’s easy to be tempted into becoming the fun, likeable boss. Trying to please everyone eventually means you can’t please anyone. Develop the courage to call the shots and make choices you believe are right for your company, not the choices that everyone will like.
Emotionally intelligent people are successful because they never stop learning from their mistakes and errors. They continue to find ways to improve and better their lives, companies, and employees.
