Hiring After COVID-19? Consider these things.

Hiring After COVID-19? Consider these things.

Before the onset of COVID-19, the economy had scarce talent and a low unemployment rate making the search for suitable candidates difficult. During that time, companies had vacancies in positions lasting longer than they would have liked. Once COVID-19 hit, many of the pre-pandemic jobs were paused, with companies looking to resume their hiring after reopening.

Now, as the economy begins to reopen since COVID-19, each business will have its own set of strategies to consider when staffing all positions. Here are some strategies to consider when hiring after COVID-19:

Start Hiring Now

Knowing what your plan is going to look like after COVID-19 is essential. That is why we are encouraging our clients to begin their hiring process now. Since there is so much uncertainty, getting ahead of the hiring curve is essential. If you needed employees before COVID-19 or even during the pandemic, you are going to want to start hiring now. Have a plan in place that they will begin working virtually or once you are back in the office. You want to get ahead of your competition, and there will be a lot of companies starting the hiring process once they are allowed to go back into the office.

Have An Office Plan

If you lost employees during COVID-19 and are going to be hiring once you are back in the office, prepare an office plan before going back into the office. Have policies in place, such as requiring sick employees to work remotely or if they tested positive, expect them to work remotely for a set period. Also, have social distancing plans in place and know that you may have to continue in a virtual space if employees don’t feel comfortable returning to work right away.

Begin Adapting

Know what the other companies are offering in terms of health care benefits and also virtual or remote offerings. If you are not able to work remotely and need someone in the office or your place of business, know that this may reduce your applicants. Many companies have found ways to continue working remotely while maintaining efficiency. Some employees enjoy a flexible work environment and like to go into the office a few days a week to remain social while completing the majority of their work remotely.

Interim Hires

Not sure what your workforce will look like and need help immediately? Hiring interim workers either on a temp or contract basis is an excellent solution to fit your needs. Make sure these employees convert into a permanent position, if you want to hire them at the end. Hiring temp or contract employees is a great option to get up and running quickly and keep those that prove successful in these positions vs. making a commitment to hire someone out of the gates and not having them work out in the long run.
